On October 28th, Estonia’s Prime Minister Jüri Ratas was on an official visit to France, meeting President Emmanuel Macron. The pair signed a Franco-Estonian strategic partnership declaration, after an earlier declaration signed between France and the other two Baltic States, Latvia and Lithuania, had not received Estonian assent. During the official visit, a round-table business discussion took place, featuring Estonian firms Guardtime, a cybersecurity solutions provider, and aircraft maintenance company Magnetic MRO, along with several French firms, including the world’s leading aircraft manufacturer, Airbus.
Risto Mäeots, CEO at Magnetic MRO, who has taken part in the delegation, believes the recent meeting is a way forward to closer collaboration between two countries, especially then the world markets are badly hit by the current pandemic.
“Aviation is under financial pressure more than ever. This means OEMs need innovative and cost-effective solutions. We are certainly better prepared to invent new solutions than a large rigid organization – this situation created the opportunity for us. And then there is Brexit, which means OEM such as Airbus is forced to relocate some of its current manufacturing from the UK to the EU. Where is Magnetic MRO fitting in? We have a company called MAC Aero Interiors: it has all the right approvals from EASA, it has approval from Airbus (has in fact already produced smaller items to Airbus in past), it has a brand name that is not ‘born yesterday’ and many cabin solutions on its belt. Our experience shows, that the official tenders, visible to all suppliers online, are often limited and small – the real deals are done on political heights. And now I am coming to the culmination: in order to engage those political heights, then Magnetic MRO has asked support from as high as Prime Minister level. Our first exchange of this idea received good support and Prime Minister’s Economic Advisor pave the way for magnetic MRO participation as a business delegate to France, where our minister met President Emmanuel Macron. The meeting was on the 28
th of October in the Estonian Embassy in Paris. For that occasion, I had the pleasure to meet a senior executive from Airbus. The message of Magnetic MRO desire to start supplying to Airbus was passed forward very strongly and we do have attention,” shared Mr Mäeots.
